Your Path to Greater Community Wellness
Support, Resources & Community for Healthier Outcomes
About
Grassroots Reinvestment for Optimal Wellbeing (GROW) was established in 2021 as an innovative strategy to address the escalating overdoses fatality rates of Black men and women in the metropolitan St. Louis area. This strategy is based on the belief that the people who live/work in the neighborhoods are the “on the ground” experts and it recognizes the hard work occurring by smaller community-based organizations, who are embedded and trusted in the communities they are located and serve in.
Our Mission
GROW-STL is a resourced and coordinated collective of community-based partner organizations who are working in collaboration to end life threatening health disparities through the formation of a neighborhood network and health access infrastructure. This network addresses multiple issues including substance use disorder, mental health concerns and several challenges across social determinants of health through direct service, engagement and system change work.
We believe this change can only happen by bringing a multitude of resources directly into affected areas and putting them into the hands of its people, by changing the old ways and building from the ground up in order to bring underserved neighborhoods and families back to a higher level of human life.
The Impact of the Crisis on St. Louis – will get updated data for these
There are several factors and others involved, but since the inception of GROW, while still not satisfactory, the percentage of overdose fatalities among Black people in the St. Louis metropolitan area has decreased from 64% in 2020 to 44% in 2024.
